This thunderstorm were pretty electrical and has produced many lightning strikes in front of us, below our prevailing view these semi-arid plains. One of them has had the good idea to come hit a power pole located in the exact continuation of the road, while the white car that we can see a bit further just came toward us. I had to remove the tripod at this moment. It was a matter of seconds.

The color toning and cast is reflective of the actual storm appearance, with some appropriate shadow and contrast adjustments, I like my images to be as 'true to eye' as possible. The storm base was only about three miles away, hence the need to shoot at such a wide angle.  I made this frame on a farmstead about seven miles west of West Point off Nebraska Highway 32. The owner of the farm, ironically a young woman named Stormy, was home alone (her husband was at work and her young daughter was at her mother's place in town) and she was so terrified that I took her with me, as I was uncertain if the storm bearing down on her farm might produce a tornado. She rode with me the rest of the chase, and once she realized a tornado wasn't going to take her farm, she actually enjoyed the experience quite a bit. To this day, I'm still friends with her, and we often reminisce about the day we met as this beast mothership put on a phenomenal display of raw atmospheric beauty over the Nebraska countryside.

It produced a breif funnel near Fogg Dam and some reports of hail came out from rural areas.  Large supercells are rare in the tropics. Thanks to the influences of a severe tropical cyclone that was well to our east, it created an ideal environment for supercell development.

THIS is why I went without other things so I could finally get a good camera. Looking west, from my church in Warrenville. Incredible.
