Lightning Photography Spotlight: "Shocker"
Storm Chase: June 2013
Location: Near Sterling Colorado
Storm Chaser: Zach Roberts
Camera: Pentax Kx
As I tracked this supercell in Northern Colorado June of 2013, I noticed that the energy in the air began to intensify. A massive wall cloud descended directly in front of me and I was quite concerned that a tornado could develop. The amount of dust that this storm was spewing at me was incredible. Between the dust, the wind and the hail photographing anything was a major issue. For about 20 minutes this supercell went nuts...throwing lightning bolts in every direction. Thankfully, I was able to capture some of my best lightning photographs to date. Including the one pictured. This bolt was intense.
